Age: Approx. 9 months
Breed: Pomeranian X
Size: 8 lbs
Gender: Male
Adoption Status: Mikey is not yet available for adoption

Personality: Mikey is a smart little guy! His fosters describe him as cuddly, but independent and not clingy. He knows some basic commands, and is learning more all the time. He loves walks, car rides, playing with toys, and hanging out near the humans in the home. Mikey does get nervous in unfamiliar situations, and sometimes puts on a tough guy act so he can scare off whatever is scaring him. His foster mom is working on this with him, and we are already seeing that with patience and training, he is learning the appropriate ways to respond when he is uncomfortable.
House training/Pee Pad Training: Mikey is house trained but has some marking behaviours, so his foster is working on this with him. He is currently wearing a belly band while inside. We expect this to improve over time, and after he is neutered.
Walks/Leash Training: Mikey loves going for walks. His natural inclination is to bark and pull a little when he sees other dogs, but when he is reminded to keep his cool, he deescalates pretty quickly. This is something that his adoptive family will want to continue to work on with him. He is still a young pup!

Children: We believe Mikey would do okay in a home with older or dog savvy children. He would probably love having extra humans to throw the ball for him!
Dogs, Cats and Other Friends: Mikey gets along with other dogs with proper introduction. He is still young, and can be a little too energetic for some dogs. A dog of similar energy or a low-energy larger pup would probably be best suited for him. He recently met a large and friendly neighbourhood dog without issue, and tried to engage him in play after a little while. Mikey is good with cats.

Best Home Environment: Mikey will do best in an active home, where he is walked regularly and where his basic training is continued. He is very intelligent. With the right guidance, he has the potential to be an excellent little companion.
Mikey does use his voice, so a home with shared walls would not be ideal. He also really enjoys chasing rabbits and squirrels, so a fully fenced yard is a requirement.
A note about secure fencing - While each dog is different in the level of security needed, we require the fence be of a height that the dog could not jump over (some of our dogs can easily scale a 5 foot fence), no gaps in fencing, gate is secure, and the bottom of the fence is also free from gaps or areas where a dog could dig out from underneath.
A note about being a flight risk - Flight risk can be the result of many things, including fear, lack of "street-wise" skills, or incredible curiosity for the sights, smells, and sounds on the other side of the fence. Any of these reasons could lead to the dog attempting to break free of their leash or seek out gaps so they can move past the fence.
We strongly encourage adopters to enrol in a basic obedience course with the dog they adopt. Participating in an obedience course can help build trust between human and dog, help the dog gain confidence and social interaction skills, and build strong recall skills, in addition to the on and off leash skills that basic obedience training can provide.
Health: Mikey has not yet completed his vetting.
